Road to redemption
Finally, Boral is gaining some traction from price increases which is just enough to cover inflationary cost increases.

Potholes ahead
In December, Boral will have a new CEO (Vik Bansal). Although industry activity is regathering after severe disruption in FY22, inflation and energy cost increases present a stern challenge.

Knee-deep and rising
Boral’s latest trading update has more bad news for earnings. Wet weather through NSW and Queensland has continued to impact volumes, while inflation is running away with energy costs.

Floods and Fuel
As the east coast floods recede, fuel costs are rising for Boral. The earnings hit from the weather impact will unwind in FY23, but the more insidious effects of rising fuel costs is not yet fully understood.

Potholes
The corporate activity that dominated Boral’s headlines over the last year has finally given way to simply getting on with the job. But BLD is now dominated by its Construction Materials business which has not failed to disappoint in recent years.

Back to basics – asphalt, quarries, cement, concrete
Boral’s annual meeting provided positive news that the impacts of COVID-related restrictions had not been as bad as feared. The corollary is that as conditions return to normal, BLD’s earnings cadence will improve.
